This report critically explores the concept of development, tracing its origins, evolution and limitations. From its colonial roots to contemporary practice, development has often been shaped by Eurocentric models that overlook local realities and needs. Moving away from this approach, the first section explores alternatives to traditional development and situates the work of Sunshine in Nosy Komba within this context, emphasising the importance of context-specific, community-driven development initiatives.
