A long-term sustainable development requires the establishment of a healthy local economy.
However, for the local population of Nosy Komba, it is extremely hard to start a business due to the lack of machinery as well as the absence of know-how and financial leverage.

Local business incubator

Sunshine in Nosy Komba encourages community members to design and implement their own projects. A community-driven approach fosters a strong sense of ownership; when people feel that a project belongs to them, they are more likely to be committed to its success. This ownership promotes accountability, encourages a sense of responsibility, and cultivates pride, ultimately contributing to lasting, self-sustaining development.

We work to create new competences, stimulate local initiatives and build support infrastructure.

We have supported the creation of a local sewing company, a chocolate production, support for farming activities and the establishment of a cyber-cafe in the village.

Entrepreneurship

To address the gap between education and local opportunities, we launched a vocational training program, offering internships with village businesses for students finishing secondary school who are not pursuing university. This includes sewing training and school training.

We are also piloting an entrepreneurship program that provides graduates with funding, mentorship, and practical tools to start their own businesses. These initiatives have strengthened social cohesion while supporting both youth and emerging local companies.
